9.12.2021 | At its meeting on Thursday 9 December, the Ministerial Committee on European Union Affairs outlined Finland’s positions for next week’s European Council, Euro Summit and Eastern Partnership Summit.

24.9.2020 | The Government supports the European Commission's proposal to make a derogation and extend the period for selling L-category vehicles (e.g. mopeds, motor cycles and moped cars) that were manufactured in spring 2020 and meet the Euro 4 standard until the end of 2021.The aim is to make it easier for the vehicle industry to cope with the fall in sales caused by the coronavirus epidemic.

19.9.2022 | The budget proposal for 2023 of Prime Minister Sanna Marin’s Government will continue to invest in education and culture. The budget proposal helps implement the key objectives in the Government Programme of raising the level of education and competence, bridging learning gaps and increasing educational equality. Arts and culture will be used to boost conditions and strengthen engagement in creative work.

22.4.2021 | On 22 April, the Government decided to extend the restrictions on entry into the country until 25 May 2021. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, and we do not yet have adequate measures available to replace the restrictions. For this reason, and to curb the spread of COVID-19 variants, both internal border controls and restrictions on external border traffic will continue. No substantive changes were made to the decisions taken on 31 March. The decisions will enter into force on 26 April.

14.10.2021 | The Government has amended the decree restricting the activities of food and beverage service businesses due to the COVID-19 epidemic. As a result of changes in the epidemiological situation in the region of Central Ostrobothnia, the restrictions for the community transmission phase of the epidemic will be applied to food and beverage service businesses in the region.

6.10.2021 | The Summit held on Wednesday 6 October focused on deepening cooperation between the EU and the Western Balkans. Topics discussed at the meeting included the EU membership perspective of the Western Balkans, deepening economic cooperation and managing the COVID-19 crisis.

8.9.2020 | On Tuesday, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) published its Education at a Glance, an annual publication of indicators used for comparing education systems. It examines areas such as the level of education, enrolment in education, education and training costs, the provision of education and instruction, and the number and employment levels of tertiary-educated graduates in the OECD member countries and some partner countries.

19.8.2021 | A few changes will be made to the restrictions on entry at external borders based on current incidence rates. The Government adopted a decision on the matter on 19 August and the decision will enter into force on 23 August. The restrictions will continue until 19 September. However, people may still enter Finland from all countries upon presenting an approved certificate of a full vaccine course.

25.11.2021 | Finland and Kenya are cooperating to reduce violence against women and girls in Kenya, where gender-based violence has increased during the COVID-19 pandemic. With Finland’s support, Kenya also aims to increase the number of women in leadership positions.
